Manual Ring Up - For an item that is not scannable.
- Touch the price numbers in order (195 = $1.95)
- Touch a department.
- If a sub-menu comes up, touch the appropriate choice
Scan Merchandise - Scanning merchandise is the primary method for ringing up a customer’s purchases and requires that the merchandise have a readable, legal bar code.
- With the barcode clear of obstructions and facing the scanner, move the item through the scanner’s beam. When the item is scanned, a beep tone will sound and an item will be added to the queue on the screen
- If no beep is heard and no item appears on the screen, the face of the bar code may be obstructed by frost, water or dirt or not pointed correctly at the scanner. Check those issues and try again.
- If the item scans but is not in your store's system, you will be prompted by a dialog box to supply some information; such as a department and price.
- If the scanner beeps twice, you have moved the item too slowly through the beam and it has been scanned twice. Scanners generally guard against this very effectively, but it can happen. If you have duplicated items on the screen, select one and then select ‘VOID LINE’ from the dialog box that appears.
- It is also important not to stack unscanned items in front of the scanner and within range of its ability to read the bar codes.
ID Scanning - There are age requirements for the sale of alcohol and tobacco and there are also ID cards issued for loyalty programs and several other reasons. In most cases, these cards carry scannable barcodes on their back surfaces.
- Present the card to the scanner to read the code. It may be necessary to wipe the card off or press it to the surface of a flat scanner for it to read correctly.
- Age restricted items will prompt the cashier to scan ID when that item is scanned into the system.
Multi-Quantity Scan - This is for when you are presented with several of the same items. There are two primary ways to handle this issue.
- If, for example, the cashier is presented with 3 of the same items, it is possible to simply scan one of the items 3 times or scan all 3 individual items.
- If the cashier is presented with considerably more than a few items that are all the same, the cashier can
- Specify the number of products on the number pad
- Touch the ‘Qty/@’ button
- Scan one of the items.
Card Payment - Always tap credit if the customer is paying with a card.
- The only time to use debit is if they want to pay with card for a lottery transaction
- At this time, Apple Pay does not work on these transactions
Cash Payment - This is for receiving payment and making change. The customer owes $28.40 and is paying with cash, handing you 2 $20 bills ($40).
- Touch the numbers 4,0,0,0 and then touch Cash. The change ($11.60) for the transaction will be shown on the register.
- This is also achievable in several ways because the POS will count and add. If the cashier hits the $20 button twice, the amount tendered would be $40.00. If the cashier touched the $20, the $10 and then touched the $5 twice, that also would be $40. Touching the $10 and the $5 would be a tendered cash amount of $15, etc.
- The register will open for the cashier to receive the payment and make change.
Next Dollar - This is for receiving payment and making change. The customer owes $6.58 and gives the cashier $7.00.
- Touch Next Dollar and the screen will show the change ($0.42).
- The register will open for the cashier to receive the payment and make change.
EBT (And Allowed EBT) - For receiving EBT payment from customers for qualifying goods. A customer is opting to pay with EBT.
- After the items are scanned, the cashier touches the EBT button.
- Any items qualifying for EBT payment are calculated and paid for by the customer’s EBT account.
- Any non-qualifying items will be excluded from EBT payment. A balance will show that must be paid for by alternative means; either cash or credit/debit.
- NOTE: As items are scanned or entered for the shopper’s basket, Super Sonic POS’s that are EBT enabled will show in the lower left portion of the basket total area how much of the purchase(s) is Allowed EBT (EBT Qualified purchases). Additionally, EBT purchases are Non Taxable. The Super Sonic POS handles all of this automatically.
Dual Pricing - Dual pricing is programmed into the POS prior to installation. All dual pricing functions are done automatically by the POS. Here is the best way that we have found to explain dual pricing to customers that are confused or upset:
- Be the Hero - Explain to the customer that prices needed to be raised because of inflation, but instead of raising all prices, you are giving them the opportunity to save money by using cash
- It will be as big of a deal as you make it - If you say or show that it’s a problem, then it will be a problem for a lot of your customers. But, if you don’t make it a problem, it won’t be a problem for a lot of your customers.
- Make sure that that these ideas are explained to your employees thoroughly
No Sale - No Sale is used by the cashier to open the drawer without a transaction. An example would be for making a Safe Drop.
- Touch the ‘No Sale’ button and the cash drawer will open. Close it when you’re done.
Loyalty - Currently, this section has to do with tobacco scan data programs but in the future, it will be a rewards program as well.

- From the Menu that pops up, there are a few options to choose:
- Print Today’s Report (All Registers)
- This is for stores that have more than one Super Sonic POS or Gas Stations that have an integrated Super Sonic with Ruby Commander/Passport/Gilbarco. This report will pull data from all registers in the store, starting from the earliest shift opening of the day, to the current time, and print one full report.
- Print Today’s Report (This Register Only)
- This will print the full day’s report from this individual register, starting from the earliest register opening to the current time. (ex: You open the store at 6 a.m. You run a shift from 6-1, 1-8, and 8-2a.m. the next morning. Since the 8-2 shift crosses 2 different dates, the register will pull data using the date of shift opening and run it to the current time.)
- The third option is to manually select a date and time to begin and end the report. After selecting your custom date/time range, you can either print a report for this individual register, or for all registers.
Print Register Report - This allows the operator to print a full register report for the open shift only. It will only print data from the current register opening to the current time.
